If you're like most flabby, pasty, greasy human beings, you want to know how to get a six pack in a week. Indeed, the great quest of health and fitness these days seems to be the search for the secret to how to get a six pack. Abs are the holy grail of the gym, the Arc of the Covenant except they don't melt your face. You pound your fist on the arm of your chair, potato chips a-flying, and demand to know how to get six pack abs in a month, at least.

Your impatience belies your ignorance, though, as a six pack of abs don't just show up. They are the result of having a low amount of body fat as a percentage of your body mass. Do sit-ups, you say! Crunches! Twist with a big ball in your hands! Shock your stomach with little rubber pads! That's just the trash infomercials toss out to you late at night (or in the middle of the day), looking to part fools from their money.

How do you get a six pack? Through hard work, and even then, the shape and look of your muscles comes down to your genetic as well as your physique. You shouldn't have expectations of that sort, where you look at a magazine cover or a model on television and expect to look like them. You will look at you are meant to look, and even then, you shouldn't be exercising just to look good. That's a goal that is all too ephemeral. You should be working out to become healthy, strong, fit, happy, energetic. Those are the most enduring reasons to exercise!

You can still learn how to get a six pack at home, though. There may be no secret as to how to get a six pack fast; at home, your results will be much the same as they would be at a gym, and the speed of your results won't really vary. Nevertheless, if you're uncomfortable with a gym, you can still run and bike outside for your aerobics, as well as weight lift using free weights at home. These are all just as valid as the crazy machines in gyms, if not more so!

Keep this in mind, though: as much as you exercise, you won't see any real results unless you adjust your diet to match your goals. Diet is far more important to the shape and health of your body than exercise, and if you aren't disciplined in what you eat and when, then you can kiss those abs goodbye.
